Joy Through Movement

Never mind the old motto “Give it your all”—
T’ai Chi Chih is better characterized by the
expression “It’s so lovely to do nothing, and
rest afterwards.”

In fact, T’ai Chi Chih is one of the few things in
your life that requires the least amount of effort
you can bring to it. Straining for perfection will
actually block the flow of chi, your life force.

Created by Justin Stone, the nineteen fluid
movements and two poses—which can be done
by anyone, standing or seated—help clear the
obstructions to that life energy, so that it flows
freely and brings you into balance. You can learn
this form in eight hour-long sessions or in a
weekend. And it’s fun to practice—it feels good!

Beverly includes T’ai Chi Chih in her
Herbal
Apprenticeship program to help students
slow down and connect with the plant world
(which moves considerably more slowly than
humans do!).

T’ai Chi Chih
“The circulation and
balancing of the Chi is
the great secret of life.”
—Justin Stone,
originator of
T’ai Chi Chih
Practicing T’ai Chi Chih in the
waning light of an evening
surrounded by the beauty and
peace of the mountain is a
spiritual experience.
—Carolyn
I learned T'ai Chi Chih
from Beverly during a
health crisis. The
effects of it, and my
mentor Beverly, have
been far-reaching as I
continue my practice six
years later.
